Overview

The Rainford Goby is an attractive, elongated goby with a warm brown body marked by orange-red horizontal striping and fine white spotting, native to Australian waters. It combines the calm, easygoing temperament typical of gobies with a slightly omnivorous diet, grazing algae and detritus in addition to hunting small invertebrates.

It's a hardy, adaptable species that suits a wide range of tank sizes and is generally an easy, confident feeder once settled, making it a solid choice for both new and experienced reef keepers.

Its calm nature and full reef safety mean it fits comfortably into almost any peaceful community reef tank without adding aggression risk.

Compatibility

Rainford Gobies are entirely peaceful and reef safe, ignoring corals, clams, and other invertebrates. They mix well with other peaceful fish and are rarely bothered by or aggressive toward tankmates.

They can occasionally show mild territoriality toward other similarly shaped gobies in smaller tanks, but generally cause no issues within the wider community.

Health & quarantine

This is a hardy, adaptable species with few chronic health issues, and like most gobies it can jump if startled, so a secure lid is worthwhile. A standard quarantine period of two to four weeks is recommended good practice, and this species usually acclimates and feeds well without major issues.
