Overview
Whale Bone Live Rock is aquascaping rock that provides both structural aquascaping material and a home for the beneficial bacteria that make up your tank's biological filtration.
Good rock does double duty — it's the visual backbone of your aquascape and, once established, an important part of keeping ammonia and nitrite in check as your tank matures.
Using it in your tank
Use it as a feature or structural piece within your broader aquascape, building caves, ledges, or open structure depending on how you position it. As it establishes, it will develop beneficial bacteria and typically some coralline algae growth over time.
Tips
- Rinse thoroughly before adding to remove any loose dust or debris
- Allow time to cycle and establish before adding livestock, particularly if the rock hasn't been previously cured
- Secure with reef-safe epoxy or rock-stacking rods for a stable structure
- Position with adequate flow around the rock to avoid dead spots and detritus build-up
