Overview
The Sexy Shrimp is a tiny, charismatic shrimp known for its distinctive rocking, swaying movement and its habit of living among the tentacles of anemones and certain corals.
Its small size and quirky behaviour make it a fun, low-impact addition to a reef tank, especially for keepers running an anemone or two.
Role in the tank
Rather than being a heavy-duty clean-up crew member, it's kept mainly for its interesting behaviour and symbiotic association with anemones and some corals, picking at detritus and leftover food nearby.
Care
Drip-acclimate slowly, as with any small shrimp, since they're sensitive to sudden changes in salinity and water quality. A stable, established tank gives it the best chance of settling in.
Compatibility
Peaceful and reef safe, though its small size makes it vulnerable to predatory fish.
- Safe with corals, anemones, and most peaceful tank mates
- Avoid housing with larger predatory fish or aggressive crustaceans
Care tips
- Drip-acclimate over an extended period rather than a quick float-and-release
- Provide an anemone or host coral if you want to see its natural symbiotic behaviour
- Keep tank mates peaceful given its small size
- Ensure stable water quality, as with any sensitive invertebrate
