Males can be identified by their more elongated first dorsal spine. Its stunning appearance makes it a favourite among aquarists. This species should be housed in a well-established tank of at least 120 litres, with plenty of live rock, live sand, and hiding spots. It is moderately hardy in reef aquariums when provided with special care. The Green Mandarin is peaceful and generally does not show aggression towards other species, except for conspecifics. In captivity, they are known to spawn successfully. Their diet consists of vitamin-enriched live brine shrimp, live black worms, and natural prey from live rock and sand.
