Size: 20 cm Family: Labridae Minimum Tank Size: 265 litres Overview The Axilspot Hogfish, also known as the Panda Hogfish or Polkadot Wrasse, is a strikingly colourful species known for its distinctive body pattern. Juveniles start with brown to black coloration and nine white spots, while adults develop a unique combination of colours including a fuchsia head, yellow tail, and three false eyes. The body appears as though it has been dipped in shadow on one side, with a stark white marking down the midpoint. They do best in an aquarium of at least 265 litres with plenty of hiding places. Though generally peaceful, it is important to introduce multiple Axilspot Hogfish at the same time to avoid territorial disputes. This species may show a tendency to prey on smaller ornamental shrimp if they are added after the hogfish has established itself. For diet, they thrive on meaty foods, including vitamin-enriched brine shrimp or mysis shrimp, alongside high-quality marine flake food.
