Size: 13 cm Family: Blenniidae Minimum Tank Size: 100 litres Overview: The Sailfin/Algae Blenny, also known as the Jewelled Rockskipper, Lawnmower Blenny, or Rock Blenny, is a captivating addition to any marine aquarium. Featuring a mottled tan coloration, oversized eyes, and the distinctive body shape of the Blenniidae family, this fish adds both visual interest and personality to its tank. Reaching up to 13 cm in size, the Sailfin/Algae Blenny is active and engaging, making it a pleasure to watch. It originates from the reefs of the Indo-Pacific, where it perches on live rock, hides in caves, and grazes on microalgae. To replicate its natural habitat, provide a well-established aquarium with ample live rock and rockwork. While generally peaceful, the Sailfin/Algae Blenny may display aggression towards tank mates of similar shape or appearance. It is best housed singly unless in a larger tank where a mated pair can be maintained. Be aware that it may nip at small-polyped stony corals and clam mantles. For optimal health, ensure the aquarium has abundant natural algae for grazing. Supplement its diet with vegetable matter, spirulina, and herbivore preparations to keep it well-fed and content.
