Ecsenius bicolor (Bicolour Blenny) Care Level: Easy Temperament: Peaceful Colour Form: Brown, Orange Diet: Herbivore Water Conditions: 22-26°C, dKH 6-12, pH 7.8-8.4, sg 1.021-1.023 Max. Size: 10 cm Family: Blenniidae Minimum Tank Size: 100 liters Overview: The Bicolor Blenny, also known as the Two-colored Blenny, is distinguished by its striking coloration: the front half is blue to dull brown, while the rear half is a dull orange. Males are typically larger than females and display a range of color changes, including blue, during breeding. These Blennies are known for their lively personalities. Preferring crevices and rocks, the Bicolor Blenny thrives in a tank of at least 100 liters, which should be equipped with scattered rocks for perching and hiding. While generally peaceful, they may occasionally nip at other blennies, smaller gobies, and dartfish. They usually integrate well into reef aquariums, but caution is advised in smaller setups or with small fleshy corals, as they may pick at clams’ mantles and large polyp stony corals if underfed. In larger reef tanks, they rarely cause significant damage to these corals or clams. The diet of the Bicolor Blenny should be rich in vegetable matter, including both frozen and dried foods with marine and blue-green algae. It will also graze on algae in the aquarium, helping to control its growth.
