Centropyge bicolor (Bicolor Angelfish) Care Level: Moderate Temperament: Semi-aggressive Colouration: Blue and yellow Diet: Omnivore Reef Compatible: With caution Water Conditions: Specific gravity 1.020–1.025, temperature 22–26°C, dKH 6–12, pH 7.8–8.4 Maximum Size: Up to 15 cm Family: Pomacanthidae Minimum Tank Size: 265 litres Overview Often considered the most striking member of the Centropyge group of dwarf or pygmy angelfish, the Bicolor Angelfish is a vibrant marine species. Its body is divided into two bold colours: a bright yellow anterior half and a deep blue posterior half. A vertical stripe of deep blue extends from the eye to the top of the head, while the tail remains yellow, making it a visually stunning addition to any aquarium. A minimum tank size of 265 litres is recommended to provide plenty of hiding spots and live rock for grazing, helping the fish thrive. The Bicolor Angelfish is not ideal for reef aquariums, as it may nip at stony and soft corals, as well as clam mantles. This species is hermaphroditic and challenging to breed in captivity, with no visible colour differences between males and females. A varied diet that includes Spirulina, marine algae, high-quality angelfish preparations, and mysis or frozen shrimp is essential to maintaining their health and vibrant appearance.
