Scientific Name: Thalassoma lutescens (Banana Wrasse) Care Level: Easy Temperament: Aggressive Colour Form: Blue, Green, Yellow Diet: Carnivore Reef Compatible: No Water Conditions: 22-26°C, dKH 6-12, pH 7.8-8.4, sg 1.020-1.025 Max. Size: 30 cm Family: Labridae Minimum Tank Size: 450 litres Overview The Banana Wrasse, also known as the Yellow-brown Wrasse, Sunset Wrasse, or Yellow Wrasse, displays striking colour differences between the sexes. Females typically have a yellow hue, while males tend to be blue. Both feature green facial markings and fine vertical striping along their bodies, with colourful fins. A 450-litre or larger aquarium is required for this species, with other aggressive tank mates such as Tangs, Puffers, small Triggers, and Angels. The Banana Wrasse is a very active fish and needs plenty of hiding spots. It can be territorial, so it's best to introduce it last when stocking the tank. In larger tanks, it can be housed with a mate. This wrasse may eat pests like mantis shrimp and bristleworms, but it does not harm corals or live plants. The Banana Wrasse diet should include vitamin-enriched frozen mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and other meaty foods, along with high-quality marine flakes and pellets.
