Overview
The Yellow Candy Hogfish, also called the Twospot Hogfish, is a small, brightly coloured wrasse with a yellow front half and a pink-red rear half, offering good colour contrast in a compact package suitable for nano and small reef tanks. Unlike many larger hogfish, this species stays small and manageable throughout its life.
It's a hardy, confident feeder that adapts well to aquarium life, generally causing few problems with tankmates given its peaceful temperament.
Its small size and full reef safety make it a great option for keepers wanting a colourful, active wrasse without the space demands of larger Bodianus species.
Compatibility
Yellow Candy Hogfish are peaceful and fully reef safe, ignoring corals and invertebrates. They generally coexist well with other peaceful to semi-aggressive community fish and rarely show aggression themselves.
They can occasionally be territorial toward other similarly shaped small wrasses in a smaller tank, so some care with tankmate selection is worthwhile.
Health & quarantine
This is a hardy, adaptable species with few chronic health issues, generally acclimating and feeding well without major complications. A standard quarantine period of two to four weeks is recommended, and like most wrasses it's a capable jumper, so a secure lid is important.
