Overview
Seachem Phosguard is a phosphate and silicate-removing media that helps control nuisance algae by pulling excess nutrients out of the water column before they fuel unwanted growth.
Elevated phosphate is one of the most common drivers of algae outbreaks and dulled coral colour, and running a dedicated removal media like this gives you direct control over it.

Setup & tips
- Rinse the media before use to remove fine dust that can cloud the water
- Run in a reactor for the most efficient contact time, though a filter bag with flow through it also works
- Test phosphate before and during use so you can gauge how quickly the media is being exhausted
- Don't overdose media relative to tank volume — a sudden phosphate drop can stress corals used to higher levels
