Overview
Part 1: Sodium Carbonate is the alkalinity component of a three-part dosing system from East Coast Corals, used to maintain stable carbonate hardness in reef tanks that consume alkalinity through coral growth and calcification.
As corals build their skeletons, alkalinity gets used up daily — dosing Part 1 alongside Part 2 and Part 3 keeps this in balance without needing large, disruptive water changes.
Key features
- Concentrated sodium carbonate solution for raising and maintaining alkalinity
- Designed to be dosed alongside Part 2 (calcium) and Part 3 (magnesium) as part of a balanced three-part system
- Liquid format for easy, precise daily dosing
Who it's for
Reef tanks with a healthy coral population where alkalinity demand needs regular topping up — suits nano reefs through to larger, heavily stocked systems.
Setup & tips
- Dose based on regular alkalinity testing rather than a fixed schedule, since demand changes as your coral grows
- Never dose Part 1 and Part 2 together in concentrated form — add at different times or dilute well to avoid precipitation
- Introduce gradually if starting fresh, to avoid a sudden shift in alkalinity
- A dosing pump helps keep additions small and consistent rather than large daily swings
