Overview

Larger tanks need genuinely robust filtration, and the Maxi 104F Internal Filter from Aqua One is the largest in the Maxi internal filter range, built to handle bigger volumes without needing a separate canister setup. Like its smaller siblings, it combines dual-sponge mechanical and biological filtration with built-in venturi aeration.

Its higher flow rate and larger media capacity make it well suited to bigger tanks or as robust supplementary filtration in a larger system.

Key features
  • Rated for aquariums up to approximately 180 litres, with a flow rate of around 1480–2000 litres per hour
  • Two sponges provide substantial filtration capacity
  • Built-in venturi aeration nozzle improves oxygenation
  • Multiple outlet options allow flexible flow direction
  • Fully submersible with a power draw of around 25W
  • Includes suction cups for secure mounting inside the tank
Who it's for

Suited to larger marine or freshwater aquariums up to around 180 litres, and particularly useful as a secondary filter supporting existing filtration or boosting water flow in a bigger system.

Setup & tips
  • Position fully submerged and clear of the substrate, following the flow direction arrows on the unit
  • Clean the impeller regularly, at least once a month, to maintain performance
  • Rinse both sponges in tank water rather than tap water to preserve beneficial bacteria
  • Given its higher flow and power draw, this model works well as extra circulation in a larger tank rather than sole filtration alone
