Overview

Building a stable, long-lasting aquascape starts with a solid base — loose rock piled on sand tends to shift over time and can collapse when corals or fish disturb it. Foundation Rock from Marco is dry reef rock specifically cut flat on one side, giving you a genuinely stable starting point to build the rest of your aquascape on top of.

Being dry rock rather than live rock, it also gives you full control over what enters your tank — no unwanted hitchhikers or pests, just a clean, predictable base to cycle from scratch.

Key features
  • Cut flat on one side for genuinely stable placement
  • Natural, uncut top surface for a realistic look and easy stacking of additional rock
  • Porous structure supports beneficial bacteria colonisation as the tank cycles and matures
  • Dry and pest-free, giving you a controlled starting point free of unwanted hitchhikers
Who it's for

Ideal for anyone building a new aquascape from scratch, particularly those wanting a stable base layer to cement or stack additional rock onto for arches, caves and overhangs.

Setup & tips
  • Rinse thoroughly with RO/DI water before use to clear dust and debris from handling and transport
  • Space foundation pieces roughly 6–8 inches apart if running a sand bed, to allow flow and detritus clearance underneath
  • Use E-Marco cement or a thick gel super glue to secure additional rock on top for a rigid, long-term stable structure
  • Allow the rock to fully cure and cycle before introducing livestock, as with any new dry rock
