Overview

Green water and floating algae are a filtration problem, not a water-change problem — no amount of top-ups will fix a bloom that keeps regenerating. The Cleartec UV 9W is the compact entry point in the Cleartec range, using UV-C light to irradiate algae and free-floating pathogens as your water passes through, stopping blooms in their tracks and helping keep your fish healthier in the process.

It's a small, unobtrusive unit designed to sit inline with your existing plumbing rather than dominate your setup.

Key features
  • 9W UV-C lamp, right-sized for smaller systems or as a light-touch clarifier
  • Remote ballast with a long cable, keeping the electronics safely away from splash zones
  • Multiple hose connections for flexible plumbing
  • Rotatable outlet to suit your setup
  • Mounts on a wall or directly to a filter box
Who it's for

Ideal for smaller reef tanks and nano setups, or as a supporting unit alongside good mechanical filtration on a slightly larger system. If you're regularly battling green water on a modest-sized tank, this is the size to start with.

Setup & tips
  • Position it after mechanical filtration so debris doesn't shade the lamp before the water gets its UV dose
  • Match your flow rate to the unit — too much flow through a 9W lamp reduces contact time and effectiveness
  • Replace the UV bulb annually; output drops off well before the lamp visibly dims
  • Wipe down the quartz sleeve periodically, as any coating on it blocks UV getting into the water
