Overview

Getting a new tank cycled quickly and safely comes down largely to what's happening biologically in your substrate. CaribSea's Arag-Alive Fiji Pink is a live aragonite sand pre-loaded with beneficial marine bacteria, so it's already doing biological work from the moment it goes in, rather than starting from zero.

Its soft pink colouring - with fine flecks of pink quartz through a uniform aragonite base - also gives the display a natural, understated look rather than a stark white sandbed.

Key features
  • Live aragonite substrate seeded with millions of beneficial marine bacteria per pound
  • Helps compress new tank cycle time and suppress the initial ammonia spike
  • Uniform 0.5-1.5mm grain size - fine enough for sand-sifting inhabitants, coarse enough for good porosity and water flow through the bed
  • 100% aragonite, supporting natural pH buffering as it dissolves gradually over time
  • Ready to use straight from the bag - no separate cycling step required
Who it's for

Anyone setting up a new marine or reef tank who wants a head start on cycling, or established tanks topping up or refreshing their existing sandbed.

Setup & tips
  • Live rock and most invertebrates can go in straight away; introduce fish gradually over the following few weeks rather than all at once
  • Rinsing isn't required, but a very gentle rinse can reduce initial cloudiness if you prefer clearer water sooner
  • When topping up an established tank, add gradually rather than dumping a large amount over existing substrate, to avoid disturbing the established bacterial balance
  • Use a sand bed calculator based on your tank's footprint to work out how many bags you'll need for your target depth
