Overview
A dedicated top-off pump is one of the easiest ways to remove the daily chore of manual top-up, but a lot of cheap pumps aren't built to be maintained or protected from running dry. Neptune Systems' PMUP is a 24VDC utility pump designed to plug directly into the DC24 accessory ports on an Apex system's 1Link module or Energy Bar 832, giving you a controllable, monitored pump rather than a standalone unit.
Beyond auto top-off, it's also a handy way to run media reactors without adding much heat or power draw to the system.
Key features
- 24VDC submersible pump that connects directly to Apex DC24 accessory ports (1Link module or Energy Bar 832)
- Enough pressure to push water up around 14 feet vertically - useful for RO/DI storage kept below the tank
- Runs on well under 20W, adding minimal heat to the aquarium
- Removable screen for easy cleaning and maintenance
- Automatic shutoff if it detects it's running dry, plus over-temperature protection
- Smooth 3/8" (9.5mm) output that connects easily to silicone tubing or push-fit fittings
Who it's for
Apex owners looking for a reliable auto top-off pump, or a dedicated pump to drive carbon, GFO or biopellet reactors without relying on a return pump tap.
Setup & tips
- Requires an Apex with a 1Link module or Energy Bar 832 to power and control it - check you have a free DC24 port before buying
- For ATO use, position it vertically in your RO/DI storage container, with bottom intake and top output
- Clean the removable screen periodically to keep flow consistent
- Keep the minimum water depth requirements in mind for whichever orientation you install it in
